Thank you for your employment interest as a FireFighter with the City of Balch Springs. This information will provide guidelines regarding the employment process for FireFighter.

Application

The City of Balch Springs is currently accepting applications. All qualified persons must complete and submit an application (hand delivered or mailed, no faxes will be accepted) with attached certificates to the Balch Springs Fire Department Administration Division located at 12500 Elam Road on or before May 3, 2010 by 5:00 pm. All applications must include:

Copy of the Tesas Commission on Fire Protection FireFighter Certification
Copy of Texas Department of State Health Services Paramedic or EMT Certification.
Copy of DD214 with an honorable discharge (if applicable)

Qualifications

Must be certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a minimum Basic FireFighter by test date.
Must be certified by the Texas Department of State Health Dervices as an EMT or Paramedic by test date.
Must obtain or have the ability to obtain a valid Class B Texas Driver's licenses.
Must be at least 18 years of age by test date.
Must not have reached 36 years of age by hire date.
Must not have any convictions above a Class B misdemeanor.

Written Examination

The written exam will be on May 8, 2010. Registration will be between 7:15 am - 7:45 am. Doors will lock at 7:50 am. Applicants must bring their Drivers License and Social Security Card. If you have lost your social security card, please bring your birth certificate. Applicants will be given a 2.5 hour time limit to take the written exam. Results will be ranked from highest to lowest. Results will be posted following the exam at the fire station. Those applicants who turn in a DD214 reflecting an honorable discharge with their aplication will receive an additional five points to their passing grade. The top 10 will go on to the physical agility.

To get to the Civic Center from 635 (LBJ) exit Elam Road and go east. The Civic Center is right behind the Pine Tree Chinese Restaurant on the right hand side just as you go through the light at Shepherd Lane.

Physical Agility

The top 10 will go on to the physical agility the same day. Be at the school by 11:50 am. Physical agility will start at 12:00 pm.

To get to Hodges Elementary from 635 (LBJ) exit Elam Road and go east. Come through the red light at Shepherd Lane. Pass the fire department. Elam Road will dead end at the stop sign. Take a right on Pioneer. Go to the 1st stop sign and take a left onto Spring Oaks. The school will be on your left. Please park in the front of the school and walk to the back where we will be set up.
